CanDex is an Android app for cataloging a personal can collection. The app stores your collection on your device and does not sell your data.
CanDex stores the following data locally on your device:
CanDex uses the camera only when you choose to add a can or scan a barcode. Photos are saved in the app’s private local storage.
When a barcode is detected, CanDex may send the barcode number to Open Food Facts to look up product metadata such as product name, flavor, size, and country. This lookup needs internet access. If no result is found, you can enter details manually.
If you authorize Google Drive backup, CanDex uploads a private backup archive to your Google Drive app data folder. The backup may include your local database and can images. This backup is only used for your CanDex data and is not stored on a CanDex server.
You can disable automatic backup in the app. You can also remove app access from your Google Account settings.
CanDex uses Google ML Kit on the device for barcode scanning, text recognition, and background removal. Some ML Kit models may be downloaded by Google Play services when needed.
ML Kit may send limited technical telemetry to Google, including device and app information, a per-installation identifier, performance metrics, feature configuration and input/output sizes, feature events, and error codes. Google documents this telemetry as being used for diagnostics and usage analytics and encrypted in transit. CanDex’s ML Kit integrations do not send can-photo pixels, recognized text, or recognized barcodes to Google for these on-device features.
CanDex offers optional Google Firebase Analytics to help the developer understand app use and where people encounter problems when unlocking CanDex Pro. Analytics is off by default and starts only if you choose Enable in the app. You can turn it off again from the CanDex menu.
When enabled, Analytics may collect app interactions, app version, device and operating-system information, session information, approximate location inferred from the internet connection, a randomly generated app-instance identifier, and Google Play in-app purchase information such as product ID and price. CanDex also records coarse purchase-flow results, such as whether the Pro offer loaded, checkout opened, or a purchase was completed, canceled, pending, or failed.
CanDex does not send can names, collection names, barcodes, photos, notes, Google account details, Google Play order IDs, or purchase tokens to Analytics. Advertising ID collection, ad personalization signals, and automatic screen reporting are disabled.
CanDex does not sell personal data and does not use advertising SDKs. If you opt in, the optional usage and purchase-flow data described above is processed by Google Firebase Analytics for analytics purposes.
Data may be sent only when you use features that require it:
You can delete cans inside the app. You can delete all local CanDex data by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage in Android settings.
Google Drive app-data backups can be removed by revoking CanDex access or deleting the app backup data from your Google account tools where available.
You can stop future Analytics collection at any time by turning off Optional usage analytics in the CanDex menu. Clearing CanDex app storage or uninstalling the app also removes the locally stored analytics preference and app-instance data from the device.
CanDex is not designed for children and is intended for general collection management.
